Don't let the calendar fool you. You can look at your calendar and think it's fine if you miss a rehearsal or two, and then something really unavoidable comes up. Don't let the calendar fool you. You think that April 21 seems like forever away? That's only 13 rehearsals away. WHAT??? Yep, it's true. DON'T LET THE CALENDAR FOOL YOU.

Our goal is to have all the music for the show learned and memorized by the beginning of March. You now have every song we're singing on learning CD's. Listen, listen, listen I know you've heard this before, but if we have 60 people on stage for Spring show and every person makes just 5 mistakes in the entire show, then our PAYING audience just paid to hear 300 missed chords.

Take the new year and make it a great year. We have many fun things to look forward to. Try a new quartet, volunteer for something in the chorus, try something crazy like learning all the notes and words to our Spring show!!!!!!!! I value each of you as a friend and a musician. I appreciate the efforts you all put forth in our volunteer organization to make it great!!

Social time will start at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.  Dean Beckman, the outgoing Chapter President, will emcee the event.

Reservations should be in already with Buzz Brown. If you haven't made arrangements with Buzz get with him right away!

I have arranged entertainment for the evening. The Cedar Rapids Accordion Club will be providing our musical program that night. Rob Hanson may also be providing some piano selections during our social hour.

Planning For Membership
By Bob Kerdus, Chapter Development VP

On Thursday, December 15, Bob Kerdus, 2006 Chapter Development VP, hosted a meeting of new Harmony Hawks members...those members that have joined within the past two years. The purpose of the meeting was to get feedback from these newer (and mainly younger) members as to what the chorus was doing right and what we could do better. Discussion focused primarily on their impressions on the first night they attended a rehearsal as a guest. Then, we discussed why they ultimately decided to join the Harmony Hawks. The final topic of discussion centered around what they would like to see changed and improved at our chapter meetings/rehearsals and how we could improve our program at guest nights.

This article would be way too long if I tried to recap all of their input, but it is suffice to say, it was a very valuable meeting and we will be trying to incorporate some of their ideas in to what we are doing in 2006.

Bob Kerdus presented three programs to this group that will be instituted during 2006:

1) Orientation Packet - This packet concerning who we are and what we do has now been completed and will be given to every guest at their first rehearsal.

2) Riser Buddy/Mentor program - Very shortly an e-mail will be coming to each chorus member outlining the details of this program. In a nutshell, each visitor will be assigned a riser buddy that will be assigned to them for the entire evening, then the riser buddy will follow up with a phone call during the week. Assuming the guest becomes a member, the riser buddy will then become the mentor for the new members first year.
