Updates From The Sunshine Chairman
By Mark Potter

Wow what a month for some. So many colds and sore throats going around, including myself.

Dean Kruse’s wife, Mary, has been in the hospital since February 4, but it all started months before that. It started back when she had the surgery on her throat for the lump. She was doing well with that, but was having problem eating some foods.

In January, Dean and Mary went to San Juan, Puerto Rico for their annual winter trip. While in San Juan, Mary got a sinus infection, it turned into bronchus then into pneumonia. She went to the local hospital in San Juan, but treatments there were not helping so they arranged for a medical airlift back home to the States. When her plane landed at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids an ambulance was waiting to transport her to St. Luke’s Hospital.

Mary has been in the ICU since February 4. She has her good and bad days. They are trying to build her strength back up. She is looking at maybe having to have surgery on her colon. They have been giving her medication for the infection, but some of the medications have not agreeing with her system. She has not been eating for she is having trouble swallowing anything even ice chips make her choke. All this is starting to get to Dean, please keep Dean and Mary in your prayers.

Buzz Brown’s wife, Arletta, is still about the same. They are waiting test results on blood work that can take up to month. On a bright note, the surgery on her eyes came out good. They are now out looking for reading glasses.

Bob Nance is recovering well after having minor surgery on February 7. His wife, Verna, was giving him a hard time because he could not drive for five days after surgery. The doctors told him to take it easy for a couple weeks.

A special thanks goes to Mark and Tracy  Potter for designing and printing the flyers, Ryan Schlader for the promos and ads, Syndicate for getting up and the crack of dawn to promote on KCRG, and Roadtrip for doing extra performances before Valentine’s Day. I also want to thank Wendell and  Mary Aldrich for taking orders, and Bob and Lynn Kerdus for taking orders and letting us use their house as the central meeting place for the 2006 Singing Valentines.
