This year featured four quartets, which worked out very well. Each quartet had around 12-18 performances. My quartet featured J. W. Kissling, lead; Allan Harms, baritone; Ryan Schlader, bass; and myself at tenor. We also had the multi-talented, multi-tasking Tom Harrington as picture taker, flower giver, and navigator. I was not sure if I would be well enough to sing with my raspy voice and illness the day before. I made sure to get a good night of sleep so I could wake up and start vocalizing at 5:00 a.m. This helped out a lot!

Our journey went fairly smoothly. Our first performance was actually the largest problem we encountered all day; the order was for a manager and he had made a last minute doctor’s appointment. The receptionist knew that we were dropping by and apologized. We simply rearranged our schedule to circle back in the afternoon.

Jessica McAninch from KWWL-TV (channel 7) met up with us around mid-day to interview us about our Singing Valentine’s efforts. She followed us to Target, where we serenaded a manager at Starbucks. Afterwards Allan was interviewed, and we ended by serenading her.

I had two memorable moments. The first was singing to my step-mother at Polk Elementary School. Some of her kids decided to dance along to our songs like the dancers from Riverdance. Secondly, we showed up at Diversified

Investments in SW Cedar Rapids only to find that my co-worker had no clue where his wife worked! The security guard said that she was working at the North building in Hiawatha, so I called him up. He just apologized and admitted his error.

Once again, I enjoyed Singing Valentines immensely. It makes me feel wonderful that we are able to touch the lives of so many people and make their day special.

Tune Up Shares Valentine Highlights
By Larry Aspleaf

Tune-up had a great time Valentines Day. The scheduling was great because we didn't have to rush and had time to do some freebees. One in particular was interesting, we were driving through Marion and saw this elderly couple out for a walk hand in hand. We pulled the van over and all piled out much to their surprise to sing them a song on Valentine's Day. There were very surprised and really seemed to enjoy it. The elderly gentleman use to work with Bob Snow at Longview Fiber.

Our last Valentine of the day was also most enjoyable simply because the gal we sang to seemed to enjoy it so
