Awards Dinner continued........

2006 Rookie of the Year is John Harris in recognition of his enthusiasm for, and contribution to, chorus activities. Tom Harrington, 2005 Rookie of the year, made the presentation.

As outgoing president, I had the privilege of selecting the recipients of the President’s Special Recognition awards. Receiving their awards Saturday evening wereBarb Read for contributing her time and talent as stage director for the 2006 show "Get Happy"; Bob Kerdus for unwavering support and extra effort to ensure success of the chorus;

Jim Erbe in recognition of his service to the chapter in the successful production of the 2006 show "Get Happy" ;Larry Aspleaf for his diligent assembly of the chapter history and his continual effort to help the chorus succeed;

Norm Schanz for his generous contribution to the chorus by framing the chapter’s charter;

Tom Read for outstanding effort as music librarian; Rob Hanson for sharing his talent and making extra effort as pianist for the gospel concert.

The following were given their awards at the Thursday rehearsal meeting following the awards dinner:

Cameron Jones for his regular and active participation in chorus activities as our youngest member;Buzz Brown for going the extra (200 or so) miles to win a bronze medal with the new tradition chorus;Bill Severa for contributions to the success of the chorus by diligently reproducing learning tapes;

The Director’s Award, selected by Director John Hayden, was presented by Gary Glockhoff, incoming President. The winner of this award is Bill Cubbage for exemplifying the perfect chorus member on the risers.

The final award of the evening, our highest honor, Barbershopper of the Year for 2006, was awarded to Reed Leamon. Reed received his award at St. Luke’s Hospital where he was recuperating. Several members gathered at the hospital on the Thursday before the Awards Dinner where Greg Koenigs, 2005 Barbershopper of the Year made the presentation. A touching and lively award ceremony was replayed for the Saturday’s audience via videotape and Greg Koenigs read the moving acceptance remarks prepared by Reed

All award winners should be proud of their service to the chapter and know that the chorus recognizes and appreciates their work. With the extra effort, enthusiasm, and chorus spirit they represent, our Chorus continues to grow and to improve. Congratulations to the winners of our 2006 awards.
