CSD Fall Convention Wichita October 6-8, 2006
by Dean
Beckman
As the CSD Asst. Convention
Chair I thought I would take just a moment to encourage your
involvement in the CSD convention. Wichita is again hosting the convention this fall and as many
of your remember, the facilities are excellent and the contest venue
is convenient to hotels and headquarters. CSD is known throughout
the Society as one of the top districts when it comes to the
quality of the conventions and the quality of the competition.
I am confident that again this year the District will
prove its ability to provide a convention that has something to
offer everyone.
This year is CSD’s
60th Anniversary! There will be special displays provided
in the History Room! A very special Ladies Breakfast is being
planned on Saturday morning, which I am sure our wives won’t want to
miss. Competing for the Chorus Competition
will be several of the leading choruses of our Barbershop Harmony
Society and as always CSD provides some of the best quartets in the
Society. I would certainly assume that at some point in the
weekend the Societies 2006 Gold Medal Quartet, Vocal Spectrum will
provide us all with a few songs! All these features and many opportunities to fellowship with
old friends, make new friends, learn a tag and enjoy great singing
will make for a rewarding weekend. So, please plan to
attend.

Haase accepts new
position as Serenade
Editor by Richard Anderson
David Haase, former editor of The Hawkseye, has accepted
the position as editor of the Central States District publication,
the Serenade. Just last month Haase stepped down as the Cedar
Rapids, Iowa chapter bulletin editor when he accepted a new job at
HON Industries in Muscatine, Iowa. "I’m excited about the opportunity," said Haase. "I
just hope I can live up to the standards of past editors like
John Petterson and Wade Dexter. They were excellent
editors."

For the past couple of months there has been
discussion between Dean Beckman, CSD Membership Development
and Cedar Rapids chapter member; Byron Myers, CSD President; Don
Fuson, CSD Executive Vice President and temporary Editor; and Haase
about the position. "When I took the job at HON
I knew I would have to work second shift and would have to put barbershop
on the shelf for awhile, but with this opportunity it allows me to stay
involved with barbershop. I love barbershop, it’s a big part of my
life."
At the Society international convention in
July, Haase was awarded first place honors in PROBE’s International Online
Bulletin Contest for the Cedar Rapids, Iowa chapter publication, The
Hawkseye. This was the second time in three years that Haase has won
this award. Dave Haase will publish his first
issue of the Serenade in November 2006.
