The Sunshine Report
By Mark Potter, Sunshine Chairman

I just thought I would bring you up to date on Garth Beatty. He broke his right foot last month and is doing OK, but still is quite sore. Garth’s foot needed to be set in a way that the doctor had to put pins in his toes. He told me that they were about three inches long and were extended because they had to reach the bone on top of his foot( OUCHEE!) The doctor placed his foot in a moon boot (walking cast) on August 14th and he had to wear it a little over a week. When it came time to take out the pins in his toes the doctor didn’t sedate his foot, he just pulled the pins out. Garth said the first three went ok but the last one came out about an inch and got stubborn, that’s when the doctor began bending the pin up and down and all around. This sent Garth grinding his teeth and grabbing the table. He said when it came out of his toe it sounded like an old big nail coming out of a piece of wood.( OUCHEE..But more like a Oh shoot! He has been trying to walk again but his toes are still very stiff. He wants to get back to normal because harvest is just around the corner…Hang in there Garth and don’t push to hard…

P.S. Garth says Hi to all the Harmony Hawks !!!!

What the World needs now is more Barbershoppers like us
By Larry Aspleaf

Over the past months I have become quite familiar with the history of the Harmony Hawks. It’s many past successes, trials and tribulations. Did you know the Harmony Hawks were District Champions eight times and that two quartets from the Harmony Hawks have won the District Championship?

As I looked over the history I realized our history is not unlike other chapters. We may go back further then most but the problems seem to be the same. How do we get more members? Why do we work so hard on two songs for contest? We have our Spring show, but how many other public appearances should we do? How do we get more quartets? The list of questions seems endless. Before you get too depressed thinking on these subjects, go back to what made you a Barbershopper in the first place. The reasons may vary, but we all agree that this is a great hobby for us to participate in. We have the joy of feeling good about ourselves and bringing pleasure to our fans.

Take that feeling and relate it to the ultimate goal of barbershopping, which is to preserve and encourage our style of music for generations to come! How do we do that? By making ourselves good enough to sing those chords that keep people wanting more. Shows, contests, quarteting all help us achieve that quality of sound that makes us Barbershoppers. Let us go on doing our planning and organizing to perpetuate that goal and our individual goal of enjoying our hobby.

The Harmony Hawk Chapter is a great chapter and has always been held in high esteem throughout the barbershopping community. The music leadership we have and the continued quality of our singing will ensure our hobby for always as it has in the past.

Golf Outing Reminder
By Sean Smith

September 23rd at Lake MaBride Golf course at 1:00p.m.. Open to anyone. Don't worry if you're not very good, it's all about getting out and having a good time together. Now, it would be nice to have some flag events. Flag events include longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. If you can get some donated gifts/trinkets for prizes, that would help out a lot!!  A sign-up sheet will be at practice. Please sign up! Also, treat it like a guest night; ask a friend that may be interested in the Harmony Hawks!
