Signup time for the 60TH Annual Central States Fall Convention – Wichita, KS
by Chorus Manager – Buzz Brown

For a number of the Harmony Hawks, the convention in October is this year in Wichita, Kansas is a new experience, The Central States District is made up of chapters in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Kansas.

The Fall contest is normally held on the first weekend in October at various sites within our district. Cedar Rapids has hosted a number of these contests over the fifty-six year history of the Cedar Rapids Iowa Chapter. The Quartet portion of the Contest will be crowning the District Champion Quartet. The competing choruses in the Fall contest are shooting for the right to represent the District in Denver, Colorado next 4th of July week. St. Charles Chapter in Missouri was the International Champion Chorus that was the last Central States Chorus to win International.

As Chorus Manager, I will be handling the registrations for members of the Hawks who are planning to go to Wichita. There are registration forms in the center of the last Central States Serenade which you should have received in the mail recently. If you cannot locate your Serenade, Larry Aspleaf has made copies of both the convention registration form and the housing registration form.

DO NOT SEND THESE FORMS IN ON YOUR OWN – BUT TURN THEM ALL IN TO BUZZ BROWN. The registrations and hotel requests will all be sent in electronically as a group.  The Chapter will be paying for your convention registration, and if we are able to get the entire group registered before September 15, we get a $5.00 discount on the fee we pay by that date.

If you are bringing wife, children or friends with you to Wichita, you will need to make a check payable to Harmony Hawks for their fee. There are no individual event tickets, and the fee you pay covers all competition events, but not the Past District Champ show. That event is part of the Super Registration for and additional $10.00 over the regular $30.00 advance fee. This means that I need your forms turned in to me on or before September 14th rehearsal.

If you are a first time convention attendee, you will get a free registration for yourself.  Others in your family pay the regular convention fee.  Additional information about the contest is also part of the latest Serenade. The online version of the Serenade is available at www.centralstatesdistrict.com.  Let’s all put for the effort necessary to do our very best at the Contest. Remember, the Harmony Hawks haven’t been International contenders since 1969. Let’s change that!
