Annual Beer and Brats Party
By Sean Smith and Tom Zuber

Saturday evening, October 21st, the Harmony Hawks held their annual Beer and Brats Party at Mohawk Park in Cedar Rapids. Thank you for all that attended! I hope you had as much fun as I did. The evening was filled with food, beer, and singing! We had a total of 44 people show up on a less than perfect October day--- at least the snow held off so the temps were in the upper 30s. A special thanks goes out to Buzz for helping buy the meat, buns, and drinks. Also thanks to Gary Owens for hauling the grill out to the site. Thanks to Mark for being our 2006 grillmaster.. I was hoping for venison on the BBQ as well! Also, a big thanks to everyone that stayed after and helped with clean-up and averting some car problems.

(Jan and I support this project since it was founded in our garage in about 1968! Yep, the first "Beer and Brats" was held in our garage on a cold rainy night in October.....at that time and for many years it was a guys only but now it's for everyone, so let's see everyone there.....Tom)

Trouble Brewing on Tracks
By Allan Harms, Chapter President

After the annual Beer & Brats party was over, one of our unlucky members chose to turn too soon when coming up the driveway from Mohawk Pavilion and found himself riding the rails. Fortunately, with the help of Tom Harrington, Gary Owens, Gary Glockhoff, Sean Smith, Ray Smith, and Larry Miers, Jim’s car was finally raised sufficiently on firewood chunks to be driven off the train tracks. I was amazed that no one could find anything sturdy enough on the undercarriage of Jim’s Saturn to which to attach a tow strap. No, the driver wasn’t under the influence, or at least not under the influence of anything more potent than rhubarb pie.

Fall B & B 2006 a big success with lots of great food
By Buzz Brown, Chorus Manager

If you missed the party this year, you missed a great time. The folks who brought in the side dishes and desserts gave us a great variety of wonderful food. I counted 41 eaters at the tables. We ate 69 Brats. Thanks to all who helped getting the food ready to serve. Even though we had some light rain during the time we were grilling the Brats, they were really great and we had some wonderful comments on how good they tasted. ( We will not reveal the secret that made them so good, however). Thanks to Mark Potter for attending to the grilling to get them just right. Michigan also rained on our Hawkeyes, and Texas Tech on our Cyclones.

We had a couple of the newer members who joined the festivities as well as a former member from Wisconsin. The usual tag singing and singing songs from past shows indicated we Do remember some of the old show songs. Unfortunately, one of our members did manage to mistake the railroad tracks for the road, but the street light not working didn’t help matters at all. The rescue complete, all got home safely and the deer that was hit by Mark Potter the previous day seemed to be the only casualty. He will gladly show you the picture of his pickup AD.(after deer).
