Musings of the President
By Allan Harms

By the time you are reading this, our annual Gospel Concert will be history. I know that Wendell Aldrich puts a great deal of effort into organizing this event and I’m sure it will be another great success for the Boys and Girls Club’s benefit. Join me in telling Wendell and his committee a hearty WELL DONE! We should be very proud of our chorus’s contribution to this worthwhile community resource for children. I sincerely believe organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club make a difference in the social health of the community.  All too often we take our director for granted. Remember that John has the excellent skill to quickly teach and then to musically craft our musical efforts. Good job, as always, John.

Our guest books and the music library in general have been maintained as well as any time that I can remember. Tom Read has been very diligent in taking care of this responsibility.  In spite of a rainy and gloomy day, the annual Beer & Brats party was a fine success. Those who attended the Beer & Brats party seemed to be having a good time. Thanks to Sean Smith for organizing it, to Buzz Brown and Mark Potter for being grill chefs, and for all who brought good food to share. And Jim Brewer gave some of us a little extra post-party activity by riding the rails. It was a nice addition to have former member Roger Phelps and his wife Sandy join us in this celebration.. Roger now sings with the Capitol Chordsmen of Madison, WI.

Because of the memorial gift from Dean Kruse, the board has been examining the purchase of one or more riser chairs for use by members who find extended standing on the risers a difficulty. The decision of whether to buy more than one riser chair, and from whom, is yet to be made.

We also have begun to examine the need for riser rails for the back steps. Even though we made light of the need for such safety equipment during our GET HAPPY! Show, realistically we need to consider the safety of our members. We had been asked to provide rail-equipped risers by the District during the last contest we hosted, and resolved the issue by providing a riser shell which was placed immediately behind the top steps. The board has decided we should be adding this equipment to our asset list.
